Updated October 5, 2021 to reflect a notice to marine users.
Sp’akw’us Feather Park construction has started. JJM Construction Ltd. mobilized equipment on the Oceanfront site the week of Monday September 13th, 2021. Machinery and truck traffic will increase as construction is anticipated to last approximately 2 years. Scheduled in two phases of construction; Phase A concentrates on in water and upland construction, where Phase B will focus on landscaping and final park treatments.
Currently underway, the first portion of Phase A construction will include subtidal rock placement and is expected take up to 4 months. The fluctuating tide schedules will dictate when this work will take place and as a result work may take place outside of normal construction hours. The contractor has secured all necessary permitting. The public’s cooperation is appreciated during this initial phase of construction.
As a pedestrian you may notice trail and/or road closures from time to time. For your safety, please make sure to follow signs and pay close attention to all road crossings. Please refer to the map attached for the current circulation plan and refer to our website www.oceanfrontsquamish.com for the most up to date information.
With in-water works scheduled daily, it is critical to keep a wide berth when navigating waters near the southern end of the oceanfront peninsula to avoid running aground. Orange buoys have been placed delineating the area that should be avoided when coming in and out of the Mamquam Blind Channel.
For your safety, please respect all construction signage. We ask all marine traffic (including paddle boards, canoes, power boats, sail boats etc.) to steer clear of this area. Matthews West appreciates the public’s cooperation at this time.
